Dutch kitchen vocabulary that actually sticks

The fastest way to learn Dutch kitchen vocabulary is not to read a word list five times. It is to be asked, made to answer, and asked again right before you forget. That is what this page does.

Start with the room itself: de keuken is the kitchen. Then the things your hands reach for every day: het mes (the knife), de vork (the fork), de lepel (the spoon), het bord (the plate). Notice the two little words in front. Dutch nouns take either de or het, and learning the article together with the noun from day one saves you from re-learning every word later. That is why every card in this deck keeps them glued together.

A useful trick: Dutch kitchen words often look like their English cousins wearing a disguise. A pan is a pan. A glas is a glass. Your brain already owns half this vocabulary; the deck below simply makes it official.

Play the deck a few times and you will feel the difference between recognising a word and owning it. When you want the words to survive past this evening, that is what the app is for: spaced repetition brings each word back on the day you would otherwise lose it.
